Refractometer for Juice Concentration Processing
The production of fruit juice concentrate involves taking a comparatively dilute feed stock of fruit juice and delivering a uniformly concentrated output. The process accomplishes removal of water through an evaporative operation employing purpose specific equipment. Fruit juice concentrate contains the solid components of the feedstock fruit juice, and provides for easier transportation and longer storage life.

Applying Process Refractometers in Sugar Cane ProcessingSugar cane, after harvesting, requires processing within a limited time window to avoid sugar loss by inversion to glucose and fructose. The traditional two stage process, milling and processing, may be combined in a single modern production facility. Process refractometers can be found in both operations, making an optical measurement of a solution’s refractive index used to determine the concentration of dissolved solids.
To achieve high quality liquid and crystal sugars and contain production cost, refractometers are employed to deliver accurate in-line Brix and other measurements in the cane sugar refining and milling processes.
Specific uses of refractometers in sugar production are:

REFRACTOMETERS FOR SUCROSE & FRUCTOSE
The MPR E-Scan is perfectly suited for sugar applications. The refractometer directly measures dissolved solids, which can be easily converted to Brix.
In sugar refineries, the MPR E-Scan can be used to monitor and control Brix measurement from the beginning of the evaporation stages up to the seed point of crystallization.
The suggested adapter for most installations is either a 316S/S in-line type adapter or a 316S/S vacuum pan adapter. If coating may be an issue, a steam or hot water wash nozzle can be provided. Sanitary-type adapters designed and manufactured to appropriate 3-A Sanitary Standards are also available if needed.

The MPR E-Scan is used to monitor and control solids or Brix from evaporation stages up to a concentrated final product. The production ofsauces, ketchup and other tomato based products may also be measured.
The suggested adapter for most installations is our sanitary-type, designed and manufactured to appropriate 3-A Sanitary Standards. If coatings are an issue, a steam port can be added to the adapter to allow the prism to be steam cleaned at specific intervals.

Consistent Ice Cream Quality with Inline Process Refractometer
Improve large scale ice cream production and quality control by accurately measuring milk and sugar concentrations with inline process refractometers. The refractometer directly measures dissolved solids, which can be easily converted to Brix. This measurement is unaffected by bubbles or suspended particles.
The Electron Machine MPR E-Scan refractometer is used to measure both the dairy concentration as well as the sweetener (sucrose, fructose, etc.) Brix level going into the mixing tank. This in-line measurement allows real-time trimming of both ingredients to meet the final target concentration in the mixing tank. Additional measurement of the mixed product is used for further adjustments to the composition before packaging.
